Alternatives to the Traditional Wedding Cake
July 22nd 2008 07:07
The wedding cake is one of the focal points in a wedding reception. The tiered, well-decorated cake sitting on a table by itself allows it to stand out from the rest of the crowded venue. It is therefore a must that the wedding cake is well presented and often should be high enough for everyone to see even from the back of the room.
Tiered wedding cakes have been the norm with such occasions. But with bakers and the soon-to-be-wed couple’s imagination, more and more options are being offered in lieu of having that standard layered cake.

COOL IT WITH COOKIES
Cookies are more popular in weddings as wedding favors, but you could also try laying them on a tiered cake stand and serve as your wedding cake.

SUMPTUOUS SLICE
Instead of cake, why not serve bite-sized brownie or fudge slices which you can also decorate. That way, your guests don't have to bother with cutting just to get a sweet serving.

GO LOCO ON CHOCO
Kids enjoy this on birthday parties, I'm sure adults alike would love this. Have yourself a wedding chocolate fondue or fountain. Also prepare a variety of sliced fruits and berries like strawberry, rockmelon and honeydew to dip on the chocolate.

DIVE IN ON THE DESSERTS
Can't decide what kind of sweets to serve as a cake alternative, why not make a dessert bar instead? Throw in all your favorite sweets and desserts and let your guests do the choosing.

Whatever it is that you choose and you still want to have the traditional wedding cutting, you could still do it. Just get a small wedding cake and top it with a bride and groom topper. It's all about imagination and what you really want.
