Unpredictable Weather

If there is one thing that you cannot predict to happen during a day as special as your wedding that is the weather. For most major decisions in the wedding, we try to put the weather into consideration like choosing the venue, date or season of the wedding.
I remember attending a wedding some 4 or 5 years ago of an officemate. The ceremony was held in a small chapel in their village and the reception was in a pool-side just next to the chapel. It was a very handy decision for them as both venues are just a stone’s throw away from the bride’s parents’ house.
It was a timely decision, as well, to have it by the pool-side because it was a summer afternoon in May. They know, though, that the weather is the least of a friend that you can have on occasions like this. They took precautionary measures by offering eggs to the altar – an old Filipino belief says that if you want to stop a rainfall from happening on a special day offer a dozen eggs to Sta. Clara.
Anyway, the wedding came and the ceremony went through in a breeze. It was one hot summer afternoon, indeed. As everybody is seated on their tables at the reception, plates filled with food, tiny drops of rain started to trickle. Despite offering a dozen eggs to Sta. Clara, the couple forgot to put tarpaulins in their list – except for the buffet table which is standing under a marquee and the bride and groom who are seated under a gazebo.
In no less than ten minutes the trickle started to pour and the guests darted everywhere – plates in hand. Some took cover beside the buffet table. Others went to the lobby while some took hiding under some trees.
One guest, though, sat firm on his table eating his food away and used one of the plastic chairs as his cover.
Aside from the wedding itself, that “brave” guest has been one of the highlights of the event.
The lesson from this situation is to always have a plan B especially if you have an outdoor venue. Never consider the weather to be a friend, always keep in mind that it might change. Never let it ruin your special day and take the spotlight away from you. Always be ready.
