Sukob: Filipino Wedding Superstition
August 13th 2008 10:25
Filipinos are naturally superstitious. One of their many wedding superstitions is “Sukob”.
“Sukob” is like a curse. According to beliefs, one should not marry within the same year that an immediate family also got married or when an immediate family member passed away. The repercussion of not following this belief is that bad luck will befall upon the newly-married couple’s life.
Some Filipinos still believe in this superstition. Others follow it just to make sure that nothing bad will happen to their married life. There are also a few who don’t believe at all and just go on with their plans and leave all else to the Omniscient One.
