Great R&B Wedding Songs

August 14th 2008 08:45
Weddings will never be the same without the accompaniment of songs that describes the occasion for all the happiness and love that it is and the newly-weds for their love story and their life together.

Often, wedding songs are confined to the classic love songs but throughout the years, this style has changed. Some R&B songs are now handpicked by the bride and groom to be part of their special day.

Who would not be familiar with the lines – All my life I prayed for someone like you and I thank God that I finally found you... This R&B song was popularized by K-Ci & Jojo (brothers and members of Jodeci). All My Life is a single from their Love Always album and debut No. 15 in the US Billboard Hot 100. How many grooms have laid out this line to his bride? How many brides were described by their groom that she’s the woman she has prayed for to spend the rest of his married life with? What bride’s heart wouldn’t melt when her groom tells her – I will never find another love sweeter than you, sweeter than you. And I will never find another love more precious than you...

When I first heard the song I’d Rather being sung in a friend’s wedding the first thing that crossed my mind was “that’s how married couples should be”. A simple thought, yet it really made an impression in my mind. The next time I went searching for a good MP3 music to listen to, I looked for I’d Rather. Popularized by Luther Vandross, the song is part of his first album with J Records entitled Luther Vandross. The significant words that make it fit for a wedding are:

I'd rather have bad times with you, than good times with someone else
I'd rather be beside you in a storm, than safe and warm by myself

I'd rather have hard times together, than to have it easy apart
I'd rather have the one who holds my heart

Another R&B song that is fit for a wedding occasion is Thank God I Found You performed by Mariah Carey and features Joe and 98 Degrees. The song is a single from her album Rainbow and was inspired by then boyfriend Luis Miguel.
How do these words sound? --

Thank God I found you
I was lost without you
My every wish and every dream
Somehow became reality
When you brought the sunlight
Completed my whole life
I'm overwhelmed with gratitude
Cause baby I'm so thankful I found you

Too melodramatic? Too sweet? Too... good to be true? Come on, face it! Sometimes, that’s what the wedding atmosphere is and the song just suits it well. This could be a good song to play while the newly-weds have their first dance as husband and wife. With this song playing in the background and the happy couple looking deep in each other’s eyes... oh if that’s not the right atmosphere I don’t know what else is.

These are just three of the R&B songs that fit the wedding ambience but surely that is more. R&B songs are slowly becoming popular and a perfect choice if one cannot find a classical love song that suits their mood. How about you? Would these three songs be part of your wedding?
