Photo Montage Alternative: Bridal Quilt

August 15th 2008 09:43
A photo montage is a traditional sight in most (if not all) weddings. It is a framed photo of the couple that is taken either during a pre-nuptial photo shoot or an existing photo of the couple that they truly like. The photo is glued to the center of a sheet of specialty paper with enough space around the featured photo for guests to write their best wishes for the couple.

But if you would like to be different while still keeping the spirit of having a montage alive, why not try the Bridal Quilt.

All you need are:
• Scraps of fabric cut in the same size squares
• Various color of textile pens

• A photo of the couple printed on fabric (size should be equivalent to four of the square put together to form a bigger square)

The third requirement can also be created by the couple if they cannot find a store that can do it for them. There are t-shirt transfer papers which you can print on using your computer printer. The print out would just need to be ironed on to the fabric.

During the reception, get your bride’s maids to distribute the quilt squares to your guests. Make available in each table a set of different colored textile pens that your guests can use to write their wishes for the couple. The quilt squares should be collected before the reception is over or allow a box where the guests can drop off the quilt squares.

To put them together, you can ask someone who knows how to sew or bring the quilt squares to a seamstress to put them together. The squares will then be sewn together to form a quilt. The fabric bearing the couple’s photo should be in the middle.

Now you’ve got a bridal quilt that is so memorable because you’ve got your guests’ wishes written on it.
